Our route was a figure-of-eight: up the steep footpath to the Monument, then towards Freshwater Bay with the wind behind us, back westwards in the shelter of the trees to the car park, up the sloping track to the Beacon, then eastwards to the Monument and finally back down the steep hill path to the chalk pit car park
