Friday 3 July

Happy hour. Met Maylou and Jeff, Dick and Pat Dawson, Sylvia Mence (former club treasurer) who lives in Peelers in the High Street, Michelle Whitehurst (who had a wedding one week after ours) and one other

Saturday 4 July

Photos of my day on High Down

Took a water bottle from home and bought a sandwich from the Deli. Caught the ten o'clock Needles Breezer to the New Battery. visited the Old Battery, then walked along the High Down to Tennyson Monument. Sat on a seat by the railings and ate my sandwich. A lovely day. Nice to be alone in the sun and breeze, apart from a few cows and the odd walker. Walked back and took in the exhibition at the New Battery: mostly about the testing of our Black Knight rocket in the fifties. Caught the four thirty Breezer back home.

Sunday 5 July

A quiet day, recovering after (for me) strenuous exercise yesterday

Monday 6 July

Washday. I brought my diary up-to-date too. Today I stopped taking my Rasagiline. I'm doing an experiment: seeing if I can overcome PD without drugs

Tuesday 7 July

PD exercises at Boldre, then off to Winchester. I called on Paul, then we walked together down to King Alfred's statue and lunched at Fish Tale. We ate a good spiced fish starter and sea bass with crunchy skin as main course, with large glasses of Muscadet, then indulgence: ice creams without (Paul) or with (me) chocolate mousse. That took four or five hours, Back to Paul's. I left around seven, so had to wait in Lymington till the nine o'clock boat. Home by a quarter to ten

Wednesday 8 July

Photos of flowers in front of my house

I am starting to sort out my accounts. Hooray!

Thursday 9 July

Things are getting into shape.

Friday 10 July

A free day till happy hour. Went down with Chris and met some old friends

Saturday 11 July

More accounts. I can see where I can recover some money, so my efforts are paying off

Sunday 12 July

No quiz at The King's Head tonight — not sure why

Monday 13 July

David Brand wants me to try taking Hyprogen Peroxide so I read the books and papers he had sent me, and copied those to Dr Caroline seeking her opinion

Tuesday 14 July

Took the Škoda for its service & MOT at Meadens of Sway. On the way I left some laundry with my newly found laundry: Crystal Cleaning at No. 1 Fromond Close, off Marsh Lane Lymington. There I met Ray Allison. Alan Lawrence collected me from Meadens for the PD exercises at Boldre, and afterwards Lorraine took me back to Meadens. Service done, I found a text from Chrissy to say my washing and ironing had been done so I went to collect it and pay. Normally though, I intend to drop stuff off one Tuesday and collect it the next..

Wednesday 15 July

Off to Ockley to watch Katie play Bottom the Weaver in a curious melange of Shakespeare and other ideas for Kids' performance. Katie did well, and is certainly growing in self-confidence. Libby and Dave were there. They had seen the play the previous evening. Afterwards a stir-fry by Jenny for five of us with Sam looking on, whilst katie was at an after-play party. I stayed the night

Thursday 16 July

Photos of the Millwood garden

Left at nine with the fairy lights UR had lent us for the wedding. Dropped those off at his house en route home. called in at Hythe, to buy a new foil for my shaver and few Waitrose ready meals. I had wanted to buy bedroom slippers butt Denis Rason girls didn't have any in my usual style. They weren't helpful. I think I shall give them a miss from now on

Friday 17 July

Happy hour. Went down with Chris. Met Pangran (Alex's grandmother), John Gallimore's mother, named Monica. John was there too, but kept disappearing. His new woman Jeanette sat with us, in the sun. Also Carol Donnelly, the NI girl who had had a dangerous encounter with the gybing boom on Island Wind. Ended up sandwiched between the two Alans. Alan Sheward had had the screw from his Daler 35 broken off so needed a replacement. Chris advised him on Southampton boatyards that might do the necessary repairs

Saturday 18 July

Relaxation time! Later in the afternoon I took my short walk: along the seafront path below Yarmouth Common as far as the Bouldnor viewpoint, up Thorley Road and back home via the old railway line path. Here are some cattle grazing on Rofford Marsh on the north side of the path

Sunday 19 July

Lazy start. My usual Sunday diet of Andrew Marr, followed by Sian Williams's Sunday Morning Live (especially good today) and Andrew Neill's Sunday Politics. In the hot afternoon I walked up the old railway track to Freshwater Causeway, called in at the Red Lion for half pint of Guinness and a crab sandwich — rather more sandwich than crab — and back via the fields and woods on the west side of the river.

Monday 20 July

Washday: changed sheets and did the minimum acceptable amount of house cleaning. Rob Birch the podiatrist turned up prompt at half past five

Tuesday 21 July

PD exercises at Boldre. Some diffficulty getting into the hall. Then took sheets to Crissy my new laundress, went on to lunch with Tony Carter at The Royal Oak and caught the three o'clock boat back home. That meant I had time for a swim at Norton Spit. Someone said the water temperature stood at 19°C, which is 66°F. It seemed warm enough to me. Some wet sand on a falling tide: 2.9m high water at 3:18pm. My first swim this year. The day had been warm, but by now a moderate breeze from the west had cooled the air. Invigorating. I shall do this again

Wednesday 22 July

Took off for Gurnard after breakfast to watch some racing. Went along the back lanes; almost reminiscent of Devon, lined with hedges and overhung in places by oak and ash of ancient woodland. The promenade by Egypt Point sunny. Several walkers and a native taking pictures of container ships with a telephoto lens, uninterested in the sailing ships. Several old gaffers looking splendid. Thought Eleonora and Mariquita might have been amongst them, but I think not. never mind, those there were provided a splendid sight. My camera gives only an impression of a few yachts, shown here against the background of leaden skies lowering over the mainland shore.

Meryl came down from Kibworth today without Tim (who will come later on in the summer once his current case is off his hands) so I took her out to supper at On the Rocks. Attempted a silly joke with a young waitress; must get a grip. Meryl had tiger prawns; I had rump steak, which was rather tough and stringy with those embedded connective tissue you sometimes get. Also a bottle of French red wine. Meryl held my hand most of the way home but we got to walk more and more slowly till we were almost stationary. I had to ask her to speed up lest I fall over. Like riding a a bicycle, I need momentum to stay upright. To her surprise I walked her home, then walked home myself alone

Thursday 23 July

Jay came round seeking my opinion about a company offering to interview him; ExSell7 which seems to want call centre lead generators. I gave him several ideas to research before he meets them, about the sales process, lead qualification and decision making units. I hope that will help him — but his preoccupation for the coming few days is his part in preparing for the Towers Party on Saturday

Simon Bull came to look at the grandfather clock, which had stopped. A silly thing I ought to have sorted out myself: the second hand had become too close to the clock face, as has happened often before.

Friday 24 July

No happy hour this evening; everyone too busy getting ready for The Towers Party. I went with Meryl to St James's Church to listen to a fund-raising concert by The Phoenix Choir. Again I walked Meryl home afterwards

Saturday 25 July

Wow! A hectic day. Lunch with a friend in the garden of The George. Next, a quick trip to Parkstone to put in an appearance at the housewarming for Caroline and Mike. Then a hurry back to Yarmouth for The Towers Party. I managed to catch the nine o'clock boat to find my usual friends were there. The two Alans and Chris on the door, Jay calling out for me in the gloaming so I could easily find the table where the ladies were sitting. So we all had a good time together, with fireworks at a quarter to ten, a laser light show and some live music. Chris introduced me to Scott, guardian of the NT Old and New Needles Batteries, which I had visited three weeks' before.

Sunday 26 July

Up late after a late evening: bacon and eggs for breakfast. Andrew Marr, followed by Sian Williams: especially interesting today. Marr had an interview with Jeremy Corbyn. A breath of fresh air in the faceof faceless non-ideas from the rest of them. Then I fell to writing up the last five days' diary entries. In the evening another trip to the church: a concert featuring Zacchaeus by The Slipshod Singers with Dick Dawson in the title role
