Caroline on Pilgrimage to Santiago
A record of Caroline's pilgrimage towards Santiago de Compostela during spring and summer 2013

The journey stared to Seville, along the Camino de la Plata. Then Caroline transferred to the Camino del Norte, walking from Irun. At Oviedo she took up the challenge of the Camino Primitivoto towards Melide. At Melide she joined the well-trodden Camino Frances on the final short stretch towards Santiago

Each of these walking routes has its own page on this site. Within each page, day by day descriptions are given, and thumbnail pictures offer access to photographs and route maps. The routes are drawn on images of copyright IDEE maps, for whose use permission is being sought

The Caminos Camino de la Plata The route northwards from Seville in the far south. Refugios on this route are few and far between; the sun was beating down to give temperatures above 30 degrees during the day; so Caroline wisely chose to change her plan and move north by other means
Camino del Norte The route westwards from Irun on the French border along the north coast of Spain
Camino Primitivo At Oviedo is the opportunity to follow one of the oldest (primitive) pilgrim routes through the picos to Melide on the most well known route
Camino Frances From Melide it is barely 50 kilometres to the journey's end. Caroline took a day off here and then set off to complete her journey
